Creative Minds at Work

Applied Learning or Fine Arts strives to provide students with opportunities in engaging activities that will generate interest, spark passion, increase application of skills and knowledge, and facilitate communities that cultivate productive, civically-minded members of society.  Applied Learning for elementary students focuses on six areas: Civic Engagement, Music & Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM & Computer Science, and Visual Arts.

At Westchester, our specials program offers a vibrant mix of experiences designed to nurture creativity, physical well-being, and cultural awareness. In PE, students build strength, coordination, and teamwork through fun activities like games, sports, and fitness challenges. Art classes spark imagination and self-expression as students experiment with different media, learn about artists, and create their own masterpieces. In Music, children explore rhythm, melody, and performance through singing, instruments, and music appreciation. Our Spanish program introduces age-appropriate vocabulary, conversation, and cultural exploration, helping students develop communication skills in a second language from an early age. And in Media, students learn essential research tools, digital literacy, and responsible use of technology while enjoying selections from our library and working on multimedia projects. Together, these Specials enrich the school day and help students grow in diverse and meaningful ways.
